About the event
The Bohemian Double Bass
On Wednesday 23rd July 2025 from 12.40 to 1.20pm, the Wesley Music Centre is delighted to welcome back Kyle Ramsay-Daniel (double bass) accompanied by Ella Luhtasaari (piano) in a recital that includes works by Adolf Míšek, Vojtěch Kuchynka, Franz Simandl, and Frantisek Černý, each piece resonating with romantic charm and nostalgia.
One of the most influential schools of double bass originated in Prague, producing many incredible players throughout the 19th century through to the present day. Several of these performers also happened to be quite prolific composers, studying composition with Antonin Dvořák and other top Czech composers. This led to a veritable treasure trove of late 19th century Czech double bass music containing some of the most beautiful compositions for the double bass.
