Grieg Piano Music
Piano Sonata in E minor and Peer Gynt Suite 1
On Wednesday 18th February 2026 the Wesley Lunchtime Concert series is delighted to welcome back the talented performer, pianist Sam Row, in a concert of Grieg’s glorious compositions for the piano. The Sonata in E minor was Grieg's first major piano work, composed when he was 22. Its four movements feature elements of Norwegian folk songs and dances. Grieg also composed incidental music for Ibsen's play Peer Gynt, then arranged piano versions of four of the songs, published as Peer Gynt Suite 1.
Sam Row graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University in 2016 with Bachelor of Music with a major in classical piano. Growing up in North Queensland, he played for many music theatre productions with Burdekin Singers. Since moving to Queanbeyan, Sam has continued classical piano studies with Colin Forbes.
