About the event

Mozart in Winter

On Wednesday 26th June from 12:40 to 1:20pm, the Wesley Music Centre Wednesday Lunchtime series presents soprano Madeline Anderson and pianist Hilda Visser-Scott. The performers seek to bring some lightness to the cold and slack of winter in their program dedicated to Mozart. For the composers of the Classical era, the magic of winter, the swirling snowflakes and the stillness of the season were a source of inspiration. Especially in Austria, winters could be quite long, so Mozart spent a lot of time indoors composing.

Madeline Anderson graduated from the ANU with a Bachelor of Music majoring in classical voice performance. For the past seven years, she has been classically trained with soprano Louise Page and tenor Gavan Fairclough. She currently teaches voice at Canberra Vocal Development and Canberra Girls Grammar. Locally, she has performed in concerts, small-scale musical productions, operas and performing companies, including with Canberra Opera in leading roles in La Boheme (2015, Ainslie Arts Centre) and Suor Angelica (2016, Wesley Music Centre). Madeline also sings jazz and performs regularly around the ACT and New South Wales.

Hilda Visser Scott was born in South Africa and has studied, taught and performed in France, Italy, South Africa, New York (USA) and Australia. She completed her post graduate studies under the guidance of Arnan Wiesel at the ANU School of Music in 2012. Hilda also worked as a sessional academic at the ANU School of Music from 2017-2021 and taught Music Theory, Music History and Aural, as well as European Studies for the ANU College's pathway program. Hilda has also been teaching piano at the Wesley Music Centre for several years, regularly performs in and around Canberra, and teaches at Daramalan College.
