Dona Nobis Pacem
Canberra Community Chorale celebrates the coming of the Christmas season with a performance of the joyful Mass in D major by Antonin Dvořák. The composer suggested that the work could be subtitled Faith, Hope and Love and be understood as ‘giving praise to the Highest and in honour of our art’. The Mass ends with a prayer for peace, ‘dona nobis pacem’, which has a particular resonance in today’s troubled world. A traditional 15th century Christmas carol Lully, Lulla, Lullay arranged by Philip W.J. Stopford and Deborah Cheetham’s contemporary Australian carol Christmas With You complete the program. The choir performs under the musical direction of Olivia Swift with organist Callum Tolhurst-Close and pianist Lucus Allerton.
