About the event

Alasdair Stretch | baritone

Zac Hamilton-Russell | piano

Alasdair Stretch, resident bass with Luminescence Chamber Singers, is making his debut for Art Song Canberra. From Thomas Morley to Tim Minchin, his recital explores the craft of song writing from its early Elizabethan roots all the way to the rawer riffs of song writers here and now.

Alasdair’s selection crosses five centuries of love, loss, irony and wit: from the refined melancholy of Dowland to the raucous satire of Randy Newman, gently shifting between tenderness and mischief.

This program includes songs and ballads by Henry VIII, Thomas Morley, John Dowland, Thomas Ravenscroft, Gerald Finzi, Calvin Bowman, Arthur Sullivan, Randy Newman, Radiohead and more.
